The hot weather has meant they need alot of maintenance and i was told they would need some extra nutrients on top of extra water? any ideas? something i can buy easily as the nearest plant centre is milllllllles away :-( someone said sugar or something similar for extra glucose but that seemed a bit strange to me as sugars need to be broken down.
Ive got some new baby tomato plants- good plant feeder/ extra nutrition?
actually, what your baby tomatos need more than anything is nitrogen. The best source for this is manure.
Reply:If you're lazy like me use a slow release fert like osmacote. this does the job until fruit start to set, then it's got to be the high potassium feeds (tomorite etc). sometimes leaves can turn yellow - this is sometimes due to nutrient deficencies but there is also another little known fact - in laymans terms - the plant takes up too much potassium and gets "clogged up", it can't take up other vital nutrients and turns yellow that way. people see this yellowing and feed it some more - resulting in more yellowing!
I get over this by using liquid seaweed (by maxicrop) every third feed. Enjoy
Reply:Miracle Grow
Reply:urine is good to give your plants the boost they might need, you must mix the urine up with the water,do not put on the plant neat, that should be cheap enough for you and easy to get.lol use 9oz of urine to every 9litres of water.mix it well up give it a good stir.may not smell the best but works a treat.lol
Reply:Buy some nitrogen and make a circle around the plant and put some around it. Don't let the nitrogen touch the plant. You will be AMAZED at the results.
Reply:any good house plant fertilizer works well I use a 5-10-5
Reply:put banana skins around them, trust me.
Reply:My local supermarket has a gardening section now, so do many Pound shops. You need tomato feed when they flower through to when the fruit ripens; until then any general purpose plant food will do. Its all the same stuff, except for Miracle Gro which has extra nutrients but can work out expensive for greedy plants like tomatoes.
If the leaves go yellow then they're not getting enough food; if they are a healthy green colour they're ok.
