My crop of tomatoes from last year was attacked by some green hornedback worms. I would like to know what can be used to eliminate them should I have that problem again.
How do I prevent worms from attacking my tomato plants?
Watch for naked branches and poop, go out in the early evening, (I used to hear them munching), with a pair of tongs and pick them off and drop in a can with a lid, leave it in the sun and they will die.
Watch for a large brown moth with eyes on it's back it is the one that lays the hornworm eggs. One can cause a bunch of munch but if you pick them off it is an easy quick solution.
Reply:Dust the plants with Sevin Dust. Use it about once a week. I think tomato horn-worms come free with the plants.
Reply:Yes, we have had the best results with liquid 7 yard and garden bug spray. The good thing is that you can eat your crop without fear of poison.
Reply:Seven-dust works great. You need to apply it during the early morning hours before the dew dries and either put the dust in a pumping hand duster or put the dust in a nylon stocking getting the dust both on top and under the leaves. This has to be repeated every week and after it rains for best results.
Reply:The best thing to not only keep the worms off the plants but also all the other bugs is a powder called "Sevin Dust". You can get it from wal-mart and most feed stores. Just remember when it is time to gather the tomatoes in make SURE that you wash them off good. But you sure won't have a bug or worm problem, also follow the directions on the package as to how often to reapply the dust.
