I just planted tomatoes for the first time ever (I am no green thumb) and whilst digging, I think I uncovered an entire ant colony. Is there anything I can place around the plants or even into the soil that is natural and get rid of the ants?
Ants and Tomato plants?
Sevin dust is the best. That's the only thing I use.
Reply:if your looking for something natural cigrette butts and ash work really well. place the butts ans ash on the ground around the plants and the ants will soon leave.
Reply:The ants wont effect the growth of the tomato plant, in fact the tunnels the ants make will help the plant to root itself.
Reply:get some sevens dust. it doesnt harm your plants, and keeps away insects of any kind. apply every few days after watering
Reply:Tomatoes are harmed by Tabacco Blyte (sp) It is a fungus I think. Anyways ..it is very harmful to the tomatos. I know cause my old boss wouldnt let me smoke cigs near the little tomatos at the greenhouse. :)
Reply:About the best thing you can do is talk to a nursery that grows vegetables , I would probably pour gas on them and set them on fire to eradicate them , but be careful if you do .
Reply:get antblock from your local home depot type store
